About Monstera deliciosa 'Electrolyte'

Monstera deliciosa 'Electrolyte' is a variegated selection of deliciosa with lime, chartreuse and cream variegation on green leaves. The pattern varies by plant and by leaf, from fine speckling to irregular splashes and broader patches. Young leaves are small and entire, and the pale tones are usually lightest there; fenestrations and stronger contrast come with maturity. Care matches the base species, but the pale tissue photosynthesises less, so it needs brighter indirect light than a plain green deliciosa. It is sold in the UK mostly as small rooted plants, usually by listing codes rather than by individual plant.

Before you buy

  • Check that the photo shows the plant for sale, not a stock image; variegation differs from plant to plant
  • Listings often carry a batch code in the title (for example 09MDE14); each code is one plant, so compare like with like
  • Confirm the pot size, as most listings are small rooted plants
  • Check that the pale tissue is on the newest leaf and not only on older growth

Monstera deliciosa 'Electrolyte' care

Substrate
Chunky, well-draining mix: 40% potting compost, 30% perlite, 20% orchid bark, 10% worm castings.
Watering
Water when the top 3–5 cm is dry. Water less in winter.
Humidity
60–70% preferred. Tolerates typical UK indoor humidity.
Feeding
Balanced fertiliser at half strength every 2 weeks from spring through summer. Monthly in winter or none at all.
Repotting
Every 12–18 months when roots emerge from drainage holes. Provide a moss pole or support.

Common problems

  • New leaves emerge fully green

    Cause: Insufficient light, or reversion

Fix: Increase bright indirect light; cut back to the last node that showed variegation if reversion continues

  • Brown patches on pale areas

Cause: Sunburn; pale tissue has little protective pigment

Fix: Avoid direct sun; diffuse bright light instead

  • Yellow lower leaves

    Cause: Overwatering

Fix: Check soil moisture before watering and make sure the pot drains
