How to Use Aroid Atlas
A short guide to the tools on this site: reading a plant's price, searching and filtering the Atlas, tracking price movement over time, and setting alerts for a target price.
Finding a plant
Use the search bar in the header to jump straight to a species or cultivar by scientific or common name. To browse instead, the Plant Atlas lists every species in the archive with filters for genus, rarity, and price band, plus a table view if you'd rather scan many plants at once than scroll cards.
Reading a plant page
Each plant page leads with its AA Price, a live median calculated from completed UK eBay sales for that exact cultivar, alongside a three-month change figure showing whether the price is rising, falling, or holding steady. Below that sits the botanical profile (origin, morphology, care requirements) and, where relevant, badges linking out to sibling variegated forms of the same species.
Tracking price movement
Price History charts a plant's tracked median over time so you can see whether now is a relatively high or low point to buy. The Radar page ranks plants by trading activity, useful for spotting which cultivars currently have the most completed sales data behind their price, versus ones still thin on listings.
Watching a plant with Greenhouse
My Greenhouse lets you save specific plants and set a target price. When a plant's tracked median crosses your target, it shows up as an alert, so you don't have to check back manually while waiting for a price to drop.
Care guides and market articles
Learn covers cultivation: humidity, substrate, watering, and illustrated propagation walkthroughs by genus, plus a Market & Buying section on pricing mechanics and buyer checks. Articles holds data-driven ranked lists, such as the most expensive plants within a given genus, generated directly from live tracked prices rather than hand-picked.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where does the AA Price come from?
It's a median calculated from completed UK eBay sales for that exact plant, filtered to exclude mismatched listings (wrong size, wrong item, outlier prices). It updates on an ongoing basis as new sales complete.
Why does a plant show no price at all?
Some cultivars, particularly ones newly catalogued or genuinely scarce, don't yet have enough completed sales to calculate a reliable median. The page will say so rather than show a misleading number.
Is the AA Price the exact price I'll pay?
No. It's a realistic midpoint, not a fixed rate. Node count, root state, and variegation percentage all move an individual listing's price above or below it. See the fair-price guide for how to read a specific listing.
How do I get notified when a price drops?
Add the plant to My Greenhouse and set a target price. You'll see an alert on your Greenhouse dashboard once the tracked median reaches it.
