Anthurium warocqueanum 'Variegated', also known as the Variegated Queen Anthurium, is a collector plant native to Colombia. It has long, pendant, velvety, strap-cordate leaves with a pronounced basal sinus. The dark green velvet surface contrasts with cream-to-yellow marbled or sectoral variegation alongside silver-white venation. It prefers warmth, high humidity, strong airflow, and bright, indirect light, and grows epiphytically, requiring a sturdy totem and high-humidity environment.

Very chunky, well-aerated mix: 40% orchid bark, 30% perlite, 20% sphagnum moss, 10% activated charcoal. Anthuriums suffocate in dense soil — roots need airflow.
Water when the substrate is nearly dry throughout. Less is more — overwatering is the primary killer of velvet anthuriums. Always use room-temperature water.
70–85% is essential. Below 60% causes stunted growth and curling leaves. A dedicated humidifier is strongly recommended for UK growers.

The Variegated Queen
Anthurium warocqueanum is already among the finest velvet anthuriums in cultivation. The variegated form imposes cream or pale yellow sector variegation across that velvet, pendant leaf surface. Chimeral, which means the variegation is inherently unstable and propagation by cuttings from a heavily variegated parent does not guarantee heavily variegated offspring — only vegetative propagation from the most expressive growth is possible, and even that is not guaranteed. At the top price tier it is the most expensive obtainable form of an already expensive species. If you have the dedicated setup, the humidity control, and the budget, there is nothing quite like it. If you have two of those three, wait.
