About

California is a compact Alocasia selection with large, angular, heart-shaped leaves carrying rough, undulate, slightly sinuate margins and prominent sunken primary veins — thicker upright stems and a more compact habit than typical Alocasia odora. It's a vigorous, humidity-loving grower well suited to bright rooms with high humidity.

Which Species Is This, Really?

'California' is sold under two different species attributions depending on the source — most commonly as Alocasia odora 'California', but also as Alocasia gageana 'California'. I've linked it here to odora, the more frequently cited parent, but treat the exact species identity as unresolved rather than settled — it wouldn't be the first Alocasia trade name to outrun the taxonomy behind it.
