On the Curious Case of Pink and Velour

Right, another brew in hand, admiring something utterly magnificent – and frankly, quite costly – the Alocasia longiloba 'Watsoniana Pink Doff Variegated'. A splendid corm-forming chap from China to Malesia's understory. Its massive, stiff, elongated sagittate leaves, with their rather pronounced posterior lobes, boast a dark, velvety green with a metallic sheen and striking silvery-white veins. But the real madness? The utterly delightful soft pink marbling and sectoral patches. Requires endless misting in my drafty glasshouse to mimic its consistently moist, filtered light forest-floor. Still, one does make sacrifices for such botanical artistry, wouldn't you agree?
