Scindapsus

Scindapsus is a Southeast Asian genus of climbing aroids known for satin-textured, often silver-patterned foliage, distinct from the glossier leaves of Epipremnum it's frequently confused with in the trade. Scindapsus pictus and its named silver forms, and S. treubii's plain and 'Moonlight' colour lines, account for most of the genus in circulation.

  • The silver sheen on Scindapsus pictus and treubii leaves is structural, from air pockets in the leaf's epidermis, not pigment; it's most pronounced under bright, indirect light and fades somewhat in low light.
  • Scindapsus tolerates lower humidity than most velvet-leaf aroids, but the variegated pictus forms (Exotica, Silver Cloud) generally grow slower and are more prone to leaf browning if allowed to dry out fully between waterings.
