EMgarden has not said how the plant arose (seedling sport, a branch sport on an existing variegated plant, or a tissue-culture variant), and it has not said whether it is multiplying the plant in tissue culture. Both answers will decide how fast the price falls, so they are the two things to watch for in any announcement from the nursery.

How to identify Monstera 'Fission'
The launch photos show a young deliciosa with two-tone variegation: lime-yellow and cream, laid over dark green. The pale colour runs in long streaks from the midrib out to the margin along the lateral veins, with fine cream flecks between the streaks. On the leaves shown, the pale tissue covers more of the leaf than the green does.
That combination is the thing to check. A standard aurea deliciosa has yellow sectors but no cream; Thai Constellation has cream speckle on a mostly green leaf; an albo has white rather than lime. A listing that shows only one of those colours is unlikely to be 'Fission', however it is labelled.
Mature leaf size and the petiole colour have not been documented yet, since every plant photographed so far is a juvenile.
What the US$40,000 figure means
The number circulating on social media is an asking price for a single plant, shared in a collector group on Facebook. It is not a recorded sale, and nothing yet shows a plant changing hands anywhere near it.
Launch asking prices for new Monstera cultivars have a consistent pattern: a small number of early plants are offered at very high prices, then propagated stock arrives and prices drop. Devil Monster was reported at up to US$39,000 at its peak; its median UK eBay sale is now under £200. Thai Constellation followed the same path once tissue-culture stock reached garden centres, and now sells for around £11.

'Fission' has only just been released and has no UK stock, so the estimate sits at about twice that figure.
Expect the real figure to fall rather than rise once plants reach UK sellers. Once three or more UK sales are recorded, the plant page switches from this estimate to a median of those sales.
