About Monstera florescanoana Croat, T.Krömer & Acebey

Monstera florescanoana is a climbing aroid native to the humid montane cloud forests of central Veracruz, Mexico. Growing epiphytically on mature trees, it uses adventitious roots for support and anchorage. This species thrives in high humidity, filtered light, and rich organic soil. It is related to Monstera siltepecana and Monstera dubia, with juvenile leaves being small and silvery, transitioning to larger, fenestrated leaves in maturity.

Veracruz Diversity

Named for the botanist Miguel Ángel Florés Cano, Monstera florescanoana adds to the already considerable Monstera diversity documented from Veracruz state in Mexico. Described from Mexican cloud forest and insufficiently studied to have established itself in mainstream cultivation, which gives it an appropriately esoteric quality in specialist collections. The Veracruz highlands host several Monstera species that have barely filtered into the collector hobby; florescanoana is one of the more accessible of these in terms of availability if not in terms of widespread knowledge.
